Special Olympics - 1% makes all the difference

Media relations

Special Olympics Belgium has launched the "1% for the 1%" campaign to support over 20,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities. With around 1% of the Belgian population living with such a disability, the organisation is calling on companies to contribute 1% of their sponsorship budget to help these athletes continue their activities and promote greater inclusion within the sports world.

Together with LDV United, we were proud to support this initiative by implementing a targeted PR strategy to amplify the campaign’s message.

Our approach:

- We wrote a press release highlighting the campaign’s mission and call to action.

- We leveraged our media relations to organise interviews with the CEO and athletes, ensuring broad and impactful message distribution.

Our results:

The campaign achieved widespread media coverage across multiple platforms:

- 3 TV appearances on VRT, featuring a spotlight on a Special Olympics athlete (Thibeau Bastien).

- 8 articles in 6 different media outlets, including a portrait of another Special Olympics athlete (Rosalia Niedziela) in Le Soir.

Ultimately, this coverage significantly increased awareness on the importance of corporate sponsorship for Special Olympics athletes and helped promote greater inclusion within the sports world.
